shepherd to sheep: the tale of the scorpion

one day a compassionate man saw a scorpion drowning in a pool of water and tried rescuing it, but the scorpion bit him. the man dropped the animal and it fell back into the water, and once again it began to drown. the man attempted again to get it out, and once again the animal but him. an observer watching the situation approached the man and said, "excuse me, you are being very persistent in trying to save the scorpion, don't you know it will continue biting you?" to which the man replied, "the nature of the scorpion is to bite, but that does not change my nature to help." and so with the aid of a large leaf the man took the animal out of the water and thus finally succeeded in rescuing it's life. the moral of the story is: don't change your nature in response to pain others inflict upon you. just keep doing the right thing.

'and let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. so then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.'
~ galatians 6:9-10

'beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.'
~ 1 john 4:7-8
