where's joseph when you need him?

i incidentally fell asleep last night with wild at heart by john eldredge under my pillow, and i had a dream about going to law school. law school? the book is all about being a man's man and going out on a limb for God. and i have a dream about being in law school? that doesn't seem very 'wild' to me. maybe it's because that's not something i would normally consider, so for me law school would be going out on a limb? i don't know, but i gotta get to campus. leave some thoughts. God bless.

thanks mom

last night i drank an entire pot of coffee (by myself) from 9-9:30. it's now noon and i still have what i think is a caffeine overdose induced headache. i did it not because i was tired or needed a caffeine jolt to concentrate better, but just because it was sitting there on the counter already made, and i was the only one in the the apartment. so why not? then i went with meeker to have dinner @ tincho's, where i had another ginormous cup of cafe con leche post-meal. this is ridiculous, i'm turning into my coffee addict mother (she also made me shorter than i could have been. but i still love her). maybe not so much with the addiction yet, but if i continue down this road i'm sure we'll arrive there eventually. argentina can be a dangerous place, heh.

man, so was i in a piss poor mood for that last post or what? well, it wasn't nothin' a little time away from la plata and 'camping' with some teammates couldn't fix. honestly, i was initially hesitant to go, even though i knew i needed to get out of the city, because i really thought i needed some time alone with God to try and figure some stuff out. and it's not that that would have been a bad thing, but i'm really glad that i spent those two days in colonia with taylor, melanie, landry & kelly. my team rocks crazy face off and they were the reason i had such a good time in uruguay.

so what did we actually do? well, once we got off the boat and got to the 'campground', which was more like an rv/trailer park with lots of grass for tents as well, we set up our tents and then caught the bus into town for lunch and some wandering. i've already been to colonia two or three times cuz we always go there to renew our visas, but it was a totally new experience thanks to the company. i got to appreciate the small, seaside town atmosphere a lot more since we weren't going to be rushing off to catch the boat back that night. all the little cafes with views of the bay, an old lighthouse that's been converted into a restaurant with multiple stories and tons of art just stacked all over the place. it really is a cool town....the charleston of uruguay says mel. i'll have to take her word for it as i've never actually been to charleston.

after wandering for a while, we went back to the campsite and landry & i cooked the dinner meat over a wood fire on the beachfront parillas (how manly!). we had good food, good drink, and good fun with friends that night. we even had a couple of guys (who just happened to be from la plata) wander by looking for a boliche (club) and they ended up hanging out with us, eating s'mores (an unknown delicacy here in south america), and chillin until 2 in the am. we even got to share the gospel with them multiple times in explaining what it is we're doing here. yeh God!

day 2 was more wandering, capped by a couple of hours chillin @ the end of the dock, laid out in the sun, chattin' about anything & everything, and drinking mate. like mel said, it's moments like those that make me appreciate how unique each one of us is, how awesome my team is, and how much i love them. it really is amazing that i didn't know most of these people from habib before we got to argentina, and now they're some of the best and most trusted friends that i have. and it's all thanks to the one thing we have in common, a love for Christ and a gratitude for the sacrifice He made for everyone on that cross @ calvary.

kelly & i came back on friday night, but she almost got detained in uruguay. we're going through the immigration line and one of the stamp ladies asks for the ticket stub from when we came, which apparently serves as some sort of official' entrance into the country' paper. i just happened to have mine in the back of my passport, because i always save them for some reason (though i don't ever remember having to show that paper as we left during previous trips), but kelly had left hers in the tent back @ the campground. the lady was like, you can't leave the country without that paper (in spanish of course), and kelly had this look of horror on her face like you wouldn't believe. then the people started talking about how there was this form she could fill out, but there was no way we'd be able to get done in time (even though the boat didn't leave for another hour). in the end she filled out the form (which said something along the lines of she is the real kelly and if someone else finds that paper & tries to travel with it, she's not responsible), paid her 'fee' of 330 pesos uruguayos (a little more than $13....for filling out a piece of paper! they'll charge you for anything and everything down here), and we got on the boat.

on the way back, we met & had a pretty cool convo with a lady from south africa who had come to argentina to shop and vacation even though she knew 0 spanish. but apparently she had a good time, so all is well. then there was this group of semi-rowdy people, two of which were fairly drunk when they got on the boat and continuously had a beer in hand for the entire 3 hour ride back to b.a.. it was kinda funny to watch the lady in particular stumble around, leaning over the way inebriated folks do (basically falling into the seat she was standing over) and talking loudly with everyone. whenever she finished her drink, she'd start reaching into the guy's pocket for more money until he went and bought her another one. not that i take joy in people's drunkeness, but it was amusing.

so that was my thursday & friday. the rest of my weekend was uneventful but productive. and yours?
