I'M NOT LAZY
ok, that point can be disputed at times, but with respect to updating here, it hasn't been [solely] due to a lack of motiviation that i haven't written anything in over a month. i was doing alright for a while, but then it came time to actually prepare for my temporary (that's for you mel) return to the states, which involves a lot when you haven't been back in a year. the plane ride was more enjoyable than your average 14 hours of flying because lan chile is teezite! individual display screens with good movies, music, and tv shows + free wine with your meals = high class. and i was flying coach :)
i was really nervous as we landed in new york 1) because i was wondering what it would be like when i saw reb for the first time in a year and 2) i had no idea who had won the presidential election. things turned out pretty well on both counts. my preferred candidate is still president of our nation and seeing my girl was (and continues to be) wonderful. i'll leave out the mushy details as a token nod to male machismo, heh.
so....according to one of reb's roomies melissa i've been a regular jack kerouac, on the road ever since i got back. i spent my first 5 days hangin with the lady and trying (fairly successfully) not to be overwhelmed by the sheer immensity of new york city. then i flew down to atlanta to see jlex and his rents for a couple of days. after that, it was greyhound over to augusta to visit with grams for a few days (and find a bunch of clothes that i left there way back when i was raising support, woot!) before catching rides from clare and brady up to boone for a weekend of picturesque nature appreciation. man, i love north carolina mountains.
that sunday we drove with some app state folks over to chapel hill bible church to hear this don miller guy speak (he's apparently the new *it* thing in christian circles, but he was pretty good) and then pseudo scalp (as in buy) tickets to the sold out jeremy camp concert @ chbc that night. i spent the next week crashing at wes' fat new batch pad in durham while visiting with the remaing folks i know at duke and in crusade. it was comforting to be there cuz i know the campus, but really weird to not know everyone at the crusade meeting. oh well, life goes on.
the following weekend i crashed at wen (who, by the way, has a sweet ass cd. if you dont buy it you're a loser, end of story), snavely and [eventually] russell's place on central. had dinner with andy (master capuccino maker) & erica (master chef) friday night and breakfast with kells, court & spence, ashley & huppy @ elmo's saturday morning (yum!) before watching duke football suck up the second half against unc (boo!) before hooking up with walsh, chrissy & jay to watch duke basketball rock ut martin's collective face off (yay for front row iron duke seats). torero's was dinner, federal's was the nightcap (cuz james joyce was packed), and after soaking up as much pastor bowen/byron peters/good shepherd goodness as i could in 2.5 hours, foster's was lunch with the walshes jonathan & chrissy (how weird does that sound?), the hurdles jay & gwen (i've had more time to adjust to that), jen may and matt sutherland.
i then proceeded to hitch a ride with walsh & chrissy up to richmond and later fredricksburg, where my good friend and dear teammate kelly miller picked me up and shuttled me to her rents' place in vienna, va. spent three days in the suburbs of d.c. hangin with the millers, wandering my nation's capital, getting a fattty private tour of the capitol, checking out the supreme court, and watching the incrdibles (great movie, you must see it). i took the d.c.-nyc chinatown bus back up to manhattan on thanksgiving day, and now i'm here, which is back in reb's apartment. lots of travel, lots of friends, lots of fun. it was great to see everyone i was able to connect with, and i'm sorry to anyone i wasn't able to catch up with. hopefully i'll be making another swing through when i come back next year.
i hope you're not tired from reading all this, cuz i'm still going up to hartford, ct tomorrow to hang with my boy russell for the day (and possibly night) before heading back to l.a. on thursday afternoon. then i will most likely be a fairly staionary object (excluding various trips around socal) until i leave for argentina on january 4.
hmmm, i could write something other than what i've been doing with my life, but this is probably a lot to chew. if i do something else tonight, we'll just make it a separate post. love to everyone i saw and didn't see, and i hope my argentina peeps are doing alright. it's been a while since i've heard from y'all. take care and God bless.
