long time comin'
okay, it's been more than a little while, but i've been busy in ARGENTINA for the last three weeks. of course the one or two people who actually read this already know that so i'm pretty much just talking to myself, but i feel the need to bridge the time gap for the sake of posterity.
so...it's kinda hot and really humid here in la plata, which is the worst for this beach/desert grown boy. we played soccer in the bosque for a couple of hours on sunday, and i felt like my skin was about to explode off of my face, the blood was throbbing so much (in an unsuccessful attempt to cool down? i don't know). i slathered my exposed limbs in 100% deet (or whatever the heck it's called) and sprayed off on top of that and STILL got bit on the face like 5 seconds after we started playing. flippin' ridiculous. it's like mosquitos are out to get me and only me.
we have wireless at my apartment right now, but of course it doesn't work right, cuz that wouldn't be par for my life in argentina. my computer can load everything when i'm connected by lan cable to the router, or when i'm on wireless at the girls' place with no problems. but here at my place (re: where it would actually be useful) there are a ton of sites that refuse to load. obscure ones like espn, si, wachovia, hotmail, blogger (which is why i'm posting this from the girls' place) and other rarely visited, low traffic sites. the kicker? i use mozilla firefox because (to paraphrase and sanitize someone else's metaphor) ie is full of security flaws and using it is akin to asking for the cyberspace version of vd on your computer. that's beside the point, but i've noticed that i can load some of the sites in ie that i can't get to come up in firefox (microsoft conspiracy?). like maybe two. the rest still don't load, but it's only at my apartment. this too, is ridiculous.
as for actually being here, it's been very cool and kinda weird at the same time. i was seriously about to flip out and go crazy back in cali, so it's good that i finally got down here. i'm fully confident this is where i'm supposed to be, but not so sure on the specifics of why (that is, beyond the purpose of sharing the gospel with students and building up the movement here). i've been emotionally out of sorts since i arrived, trying to figure out what my role on the team is this year, and trying not to let the inevitability of post-november freak me out too much. there's a lot more to it, but i'm not in a mental state capable of explaining everything coherently, so we'll just pass on that for now. suffice to say that i'm going to be learning, yet again, patience and trusting in God to provide answers in a timely manner. it's like i'm a remedial student in the school of spirituality.
